Walk 8: Out into the countryside
Learn more
This walk shows just how close nature is to the Tyrolean capital. Even tram line 6 – the Waldbahn – demonstrates this proximity: it chugs leisurely out of the city and through the forest and across meadows. There are many treasures hidden along its route waiting to be discovered. The stops also sound promising – and deliver what they seem to promise: history, mysticism and brilliant views. The evocative names such as Tummelplatz, Schönruh and Tantegert are fixed points for those who want to take walks through this unique landscape. Before you literally set off, take the ‘6’ from the city to Igls or, alternatively, to Lansersee. No matter where you get off, the trail leads across the Lanser Moor, the golf course and the forest playground to Ambras Castle. Once you arrive at the magnificent castle, you can either walk or take the ‘6’ back to the city.
The practical thing about this route is that it repeatedly crosses the stops of the Waldbahn forest railway, so you can shorten the tour at any time! You can also walk the route in the opposite direction (in sections).
The best thing is that both the ride on the Waldbahn line 6 and the bus line J (towards Patscherkofel) are free with the Welcome Card and included in the Innsbruck Card.
New: Interactive on the go
Now you can also experience this walk with interactive stations directly on your smartphone. With the Wunderwege web app, you also have the audio guide with you at all times and can discover the content at your own pace along the way.
